The Integrated LUT Policy Implementation approach

:: TRANSPLUS Transport Planning, Land Use and Sustainability
TRANSPLUS research illustrates how to achieve sustainable transport and land use with integrated policies. Based on the analysis of empirical cases, TRANSPLUS elaborated a set of guidelines for integrating land use and transport policies in the urban policy context and in the wider context of policies at the regional, national and European Union level. Taking stock of a wide range of case studies concerning LUT processes and outcomes, these guidelines are directed to four main categories of people, namely: .
- politicians, decision-makers and officers - to increase the awareness of policy-makers concerning the opportunities for adopting policies that proved successful elsewhere and assisting them to assess policy transferability;
- planners and consultants - to access relevant ‘best practice’ information on LUT planning and policy implementation;
- experts, researchers and universities - to access comparative information and ‘best practice’ on LUT issues;
- non-governmental organisations and citizens groups - to understand and influence the land use planning process;
- final recommendations on how to achieve sustainable transport and land use with integrated policies.
The key was to understand the objectives (link to SLIDE 2) of integrated land use and transport policies and specify the integrated policy implementation (link to SLIDE 3) process to be put in place in order to achieve those objectives.
